just can't get enough

12/31/08
she took over..
everything!
(including this blog)
but that's ok, perfectly fine with me.
i'm one of those moms that blogs about her child/children 90% of the time.
and it's because she means the world to me.
lance and i often wonder what the heck we did before she was born.
what was our entertainment?
what did we talk about?
what did we do??

it's hard to believe in just a couple days all of our worlds will change with a new little spirit.
i'm nervous.scared.excited.anxious.even a little sad.
does that sound horrible?
the love i have for her is just beyond anyone's understanding.
and it's beyond my understanding of how i'll love another that much.
while i rocked her tonight i just held her tight, and took in every second i had with just me and her...
right then at that moment.

i have a couple more nights like that that i can really soak up.
cause she won't be the baby anymore.
she'll be the big sister.
and a good one at that.

easter events

i would say layla had a pretty good Easter.
in fact all of us, in our little family of three did.
layla was able to participate in three different Easter egg hunts, and loved every bit of it.
so did Lance and I.
we'd smile at each other as we'd watch her race from one egg to another.

Easter Sunday was wonderful.
Lance's brother Denton and wife Kelly had us over for a wonderful dinner.
we then went on motorcycle rides, played badminton, jumped on the tramp,
and ended the day with yet another Easter egg hunt.

And of course after that, we enjoyed all the candy in the eggs.
I don't now how layla's teeth managed to make it through the weekend!

{her first of three easter egg hunts. this one was in picayune at the airport where they dropped all the eggs from airplanes. she thought that was pretty neat. my camera died right before the hunt, but hopefully uncle greg will let us snatch some of the pictures her took!}

{second easter egg hunt at the church with the primary}

Easter morning...

{third hunt with her silly cousins}

we hope everyone enjoyed their easter weekend and remembered what is was really all about.
our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
His resurrection.
His Sacrifice.
His Love for each of us,
and of course all He suffered for US.

need an new idea for a delicious and healthy snack?

i'm always looking for healthy little snacks for layla and i,
so i'm not just fueling her with goldfish, fruit snacks, and marshmellows.
(yes, she'd eat that all day long if i'd let her.)

living in hattiesburg i've dicovered a favorite snack that both of us love, so i thought i'd share.

these...

paired with this...
is absolutely delicious.
i've always known about pita chips and hummus,
but not these brands.

we also like to eat big juicy grapes on the side.
they compliment both pita chips and hummus very well.

it's a yummy treat!
i get mine at sams, but i'm sure you can get it at walmart.

try it out.

what are some yummy healthy snacks that you enjoy?

it's finally getting thicker

my child is almost 28 months old.
that's 2 years and 4 months.
2 years i had to wait to finally do a little french braid in her hair!!

i was worried her hair may be very thin and fine.
but it's actually starting to come in a little thicker like mine.
and you know what i love?
i love that SHE loves for her mama to do her hair.

she sits and stares in the mirror and says,
"wow mama, that's cute!"

she may like batman, but she's still my little girly girl.

only downside of this..
she looks to grown.

(and yes catlin, i do dress my child, but lasagna and cute white shirts don't mix! sometimes it's just easier to let them eat without any clothes on and throw them in the bath. you'll see one day)

4.18.2011

it's become a bribe..

..the motorcycle that is.
layla wants to ride it as soon as lance gets home from work.
which is also the same time as dinner.
soooo...
what do we do?
"if you eat all your dinner, you can go on a motorcycle ride!"

so far, it's worked every time.
(i knew that thing was good for something!)

4.14.2011

a look inside our girls days..

yesterday we had it at our house.
we had a couple more mothers join us with their adorable children.
and even though we're all exhausted after refereeing our kids, we still love to do it.
on the menu-
spinach and poppy seed salad
it was delicious.
here's the recipe.

Salad
2 bags of spinach
1 bag of romaine
1/2 lb bacon, cooked and crumbled
3/4 lb shredded swiss cheese
sliced almonds

Dressing
1 1/2 TBS. poppy seeds
1 1/2 c. oil
3/4 c. sugar
3/4 tsp. dry mustard
1 1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. white vinegar
1/2 purple onion, chopped fine

Make dressing 24 hours before your event. Store in the refrigerator and shake often.

miss A

my beautiful niece asked me if i'd do her senior pics for her.
i gladly took her up on it, and really enjoyed spending that time with her.
here are just a few of my faves.

4.10.2011

we never do this

in fact i'm usually completely against this.
but last night, i just couldn't resist.
i needed her to lie next to us and to snuggle us all night.
and that's exactly what she did.
she's actually a wonderful little sleeper, and stayed in one place all night.

it's so tempting to do it again tonight,
specially since daddy is working.

i think it may be that she won't be my baby much longer.
she'll be the big sister.
i need to keep her my baby for a couple more weeks.

4.09.2011

he did it

after weeks of trying to decide whether or not to do it...
and even coming to a decision that he wasn't going to.
he did it anyway.
he bought himself a motorcycle.

Layla is already in love with it.
i even went on a ride with him and really enjoyed it.
(even though i wasn't totally thrilled when he did end up buying it)
but i guess a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do?

he works hard for us, i'll let him slide with this one ;)

i think she's what makes it look so good.

as you can see, it's taken over his spot in the garage.
it's his new baby.
(in fact, he even changed our desktop background picture, which, btw, was a family picture, to a picture of his bike. he's such a man.)

how to make your own cupcake stand

my wonderful friend amanda shared with me how to make this
adorable inexpensive cupcake stand.
so..
i thought i'd share with you.

now, apparently it's illegal to use postal boxes this way, but believe me when i say
"i didn't know!"
they were all just the perfect size, and hey, i spent $44 dollars
the same day on just stamps, so i think it was worth it for the free boxes.

anyway, go get you some free boxes.
i used two boxes for my base and two more to make the stand.

 cover in the desired colors
 decorate anyway you'd like.

 stack on your cupcakes!
(and any other extras you may have)

total cost:
$15

side note:
it may cost you a little more if you have to go out and buy the wrapping paper and ribbon.
i hit the jackpot this week at hobby lobby and bought some of the ribbon for 50% off.
the wrapping paper was the most expensive part.

Ahoy ahoy...

Wendi's having a boy...
is what the inivitation read.

This morning, I along with a couple wonderful women in our ward threw Wendi
and Mr. Brighton a Nautical/Sailor themed baby shower.

I was in charge of cupcakes and the cupcake stand, along with the pompoms.
(if you like cupcakes with amazing icing click on the links below. you'll love me for sharing)
(both from my favorite food blog our best bites)

did i ever mention that my wonderful mother bought me their cookbook?!
it's awesome, go get you one!

{Jessie: 37 wks, Wendi: 34 wks}
we are both SO ready!
