today miss Layla is 3!!

Dear Miss Layla,

I can't believe you are 3 years old!!
I still remember the moment I first held you in my arms.
I just kept thinking to myself,
"How on earth did I deserve to be blessed with such a beautiful little angel?"
You were absolutely perfect, you didn't even look like you had just traveled through
the birth canal.
Every little feature of yours was flawless.
And they still are.

You've grown into such a smart big girl this past year.
Specially after your little brother was born.
You just took on the big sister role so well, and matured so quickly.

You know what I love most about your age?
Your personality!
You say the FUNNIEST things, most the time you'll have me and your daddy rolling.
Just yesterday, when I was giving you and "brudder" a bath you would not
stop pouring water on his face, so I grabbed a cup of water and poured it on your face.
You looked up at me and said, "You little turd!"
You also call the remote an e-mote.
The kitchen, chichen.
Deodorant, yogurant.
Your Ken doll, you call him Nake.
When you've been spinning around in circles, instead of saying, "I'm dizzy!" you say
"wow, I'm busy!"
You also understand what death is now.
(sounds kind of creepy that you understand that)
So if I say, "Layla, will you please not stand on your chair?" or "Layla, be careful when you're
jumping off the couch!" or "We need to always wear our seat belts Layla, so please don't take yours off!"
You'll say, "Or I could hit my head and die?"
You call cottage cheese, college cheese.
You have two baby dolls.
One is named baby doll and the others name is Romy Eve.
And you've learned to take care of them just like I take care of brother.
Another funny thing...
You're dad and I are always trying to spell certain words out to be secretive around you.
Or we'll say, "Well that was s-t-u-p-i-d."
And you'll turn around and say, "I know it was r-s-c-t-b-c..."
It's hilarious that you actually think you're spelling something out.
We just play along and agree with you.
You call your whales crackers that I buy you, whale goldfish.
Cause they look like goldfish.
You're just so silly.

You're favorite cartoons to watch are Dora the Explorer and Backyardigans.
But you call Backyardigans, Backyarda Friends.
And your favorite movies would have to be The Lion King, Tangled, and Rio.
(Thank goodness, I love all those movies too!)

Some of your greatest friends are Brooklyn Johnson, Alayna Johnson, Cooper and Briggs
Waldrop, and your cousins, Laura, Leah and Katie, and of course all your
cousins in Utah. You talk about them all the time and tell me how much you miss them.

You're daddy is your best buddy.
When he's home on the weekends, you're glued to his hip and tag along with him where ever
he goes. Your favorite thing to do with him is play Barbies and cook him food in your kitchen.
You also love your Uncle Greg, and if he ever tells you "no" you have an
immediate meltdown, cause let's face it, he never tells you no.

At the end of July you got really sick with hand, mouth and foot disease.
You never actually broke out on your hands and feet, but you did get some sores
in the back of your throat, and you ran a fever of 103 for a couple days.
Then, at the end of August, I noticed that your hair was falling out.
Like big globs of hair.
It took you 2 years to finally get hair, it was actually past your shoulders,
then you just started loosing it.
I took you to the doctor, and he thinks because of the stress of your high fever,
it's caused you to loose a lot of your hair.
So we've had to cut it again and again to make up for all the thinning.
I'm taking you back next week to have blood work done to make sure that
nothing else is going on with your little body.
We're crossing our fingers that the tests come back normal.
You have a lot of new hair growth, so maybe in another 2 years, you'll have a FULL
head of hair?!! Only time will tell.

Your daddy and I are starting to get used to little footsteps in our bedroom
around 3 or so in the morning and your little body between us when we wake up.
I complain, but in all reality, I'll miss it when you stop.
I just love to cuddle you, and the best part of it is that you like to cuddle me too.

At the end of the day, when we kneel down, say our prayers, and read a couple
verses out of your own set of scriptures, I crawl in your bed and lay with you to help you go to sleep,
because you're scared that Baird the Dragon, aka Blah, will get you.
I tell you to hold your scriptures tight when you're scared and you'll feel all better.
When I check on you in the morning, sometimes you'll have your scriptures laying right next to you.
It's so sweet.

Speaking of Blah, that darn dragon may be the death of me!
He's a little green puppet on Baby Einstein that you used to love.
He'll come on the screen and say, "Blah!"
But after a few nightmares about him beating you up, you really do not like him anymore.
You always ask me, "Is Blah gonna get me momma?!"
Bless your little heart, you're so scared of him.

When you're tired and ready for bed you'll come up to me with
arms wide open and say, "I wanna hold you."
That is something I will definitely miss one day.

I could go on and on about how wonderful you are.
You're just a perfect little piece of heaven.
Mommy and Daddy love you
thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiissssssssssssssssssssss much!

Happy Birthday Miss Layla!

Love,
Your Proud Mommy and Daddy

christmas, take 2

My parents Christmas gifts finally arrived on Tuesday,
but Lance worked that night so we couldn't open them till Wednesday night...
I swear the boxes were whispering my name every time I'd walk by them.
I can hardly contain myself when a gift is sitting right in front of me.
I guess it's the kid in me.

Anyway, we were spoiled yet again.
I got the cutest bag to hold all my doTERRA oils.
Along with earrings, a gift card, the movie 17 Miracles (it's great, if you haven't seen it, watch it), and my most favorite holiday treats, Reese's Christmas trees and a CHOCOLATE ORANGE! Mmmm
Lance got Band of Brothers, a gift card, a trimmer, and his favorite holiday treats.
Layla got Barbie clothes and accessories, along with an adorable hair bow and the neatest books.
One book is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and my parents actually read it too her.
(it's a recording)
It gave me tears when I heard their voices. Still does when we lay down and read it.
It's definitely a book that will be kept safe.
Marx got another remote controlled car and a book.

Thank you mom and dad! You're the greatest.
We love and miss you so so much!

marx is 8 months!

Mr. Marx,

Today you are 8 months old.
I seriously can't believe it.
(do I say that in every monthly post?)
In all honesty it's been both a longgg 8 months and a short 8 months.
Crazy how that can be.

Now that ALL 4 top teeth have broke through, you've been much more pleasant.
Plus you've finally figured out how to use your rolling talents.
It took you awhile.
So now that you can roll all over the place and (most the time) get what toy you want, you're pretty content.
You've even started pulling up on things...
isn't that weird that you're pulling up on things before you're crawling?
I think so.
But, you are trying to crawl.
You'll try and try, then get frustrated and hang your head into the carpet.
It's quite cute.

You've become the pro at blowing raspberries.
Specially when I feed you food you don't like.
And speaking of food,
you LOVE table food.
Favorites so far are biscuits, rolls, pancakes, waffles, graham crackers, goldfish...
Just to name a few.
You're very good at using your front teeth and chewing up your food, which totally surprises me,
but I'm still careful at what I give you and how big it is.

You totally enjoyed your first Christmas.
You love to clank all your new boy toys together.
That's going to take me some time to get used too,
it's just something your sister never did.
I imagine it's just the boy in you.

You LOVE your big sister Layla.
She'll come zooming around the corner and you automatically think she's coming for you.
You'll kick your legs as fast as you can and squeal at the top of your lungs.
And when she sees how happy it makes you, she'll do it again.
It's adorable.
She's also the first one to greet you when you wake up from your naps.
From the second you go down, she's checking the door to see if she can hear you
so she can play with you.

Most of the time you HAVE to be entertained by something.
I usually put a baby einstein on for you and place a lot of toys in front of you if I need to get
 some things accomplished.
You'll get bored with the toys within 10 min. or so and I'll have to replace them with new toys.

I think besides your sister, I'm about the only one that can get you to laugh.
And I mean deep within that little belly of yours kind of laugh.
I'll raise up your arms and just chew (very softly) on your little ribs.
You start laughing before I even start doing it, because you know exactly what's coming.
It NEVER fails.

We just love you to pieces.
You and you're little sister are our little rays of sunshine on the greyest of days.
Happy 8 months sweet baby boy!

Love,
Your Mommy

it won't be long and he'll be all over the place!

christmas 2011

ahh Christmas!
I didn't want it to end this year.
There's nothing like seeing Layla's face light up as she turns the corner into our living
room to see HER Dora kitchen.
Priceless.
And even though Marx is still so young, he was in heaven playing with all his new boy toys.

We were all so blessed this year, and maybe even a little spoiled. (:
Each year gets better and better.
Specially as our children get older.

We started the holiday off bright and early.
(well 7:30, we had to wake Layla up)
After we opened all our gifts and ate breakfast,
we attended church.
It was a beautiful meeting, where we were able to sing Christmas hymns, and listen to our leaders
bear their testimonies of Christ our Saviour, and the true meaning of Christmas. It was a great reminder to me of the most precious gift that was given to us.

We then headed down south to Grandma's and Papa's for a delicious lunch and more gifts!
I'm so thankful for my family here in Mississippi, specially my husband.
It's not easy being away from my family in Utah, and somehow they all seem to make it a little easier.

my first pair of Ugg slippers,
thanks to my hubby and sister-in-law.
They are absolutely heavenly.
I DO NOT take them off.

My two peas in a pod necklace from my mother-in-law.
Saying I love it is an understatement.

my parents gifts were delivered a little later than they were supposed to be.
now I have to wait for my hubby to get home so we can open them!!
yay for us, we'll get to celebrate Christmas twice.
Layla will be ecstatic!

We hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!!

Christmas Eve..

...was wonderful this year.
Layla and I made cookies for Santa,
(I cheated and bought pillsbury pre-made cookies. I had been cooking all day!)
we had family and friends over for a yummy Pozole dinner,
the kids opened their Christmas jammies,
Layla set out Santa's cookies,
then
she kissed us goodnight and happily went to bed.

Poor guy. If he only knew how much she really loves him!

the candy cane

it's been one of his favorite holiday treats!

12.16.2011

santa claus, round 2

Layla did much better this go around.
I love how she's smiling like, "Mom, hurry up and snap the picture so I can get off this man's lap!"

Little man didn't do so great...

but give him candy and he's good to go...

My 25th Birthday

Turning a quarter of a century old wasn't something I was totally excited about,
but,
when I turn 30, I'm sure I'll be wishing I was turning 25 again.
So I'm quite alright with it now.

I was a bit spoiled this year, specially by my honey.
I just love him, he knows exactly what will put a smile on my face.

I never quite understood the hype about Uggs.
And it's because I had never tried them on.
It's like stepping in a big fluffly cloud.
I.LOVE.THEM!
He also bought me Coach's new fragrance, Poppy. It's divine.
And...
Dun Dun Dun...
tickets to The Bayou Country Superfest.
I can not wait.
If you know me, you know I love Carrie Underwood.
She's amazing. Like, gives me goodbumps everytime I listen to her sing amazing.
I can't wait!
And isn't that little bottle of Poppy cute?!

 Then...
I was spoiled by my mother and father along with my mother-in-law and father-in-law.
My sister in law and brother in law also bought me the cutest lace dress ever.
I can't wait till Christmas Sunday to wear it.
And you see that cute cardi I'm wearing.
She bought me it too.
She knows me well.

ahh,
one year older and wiser too huh?!
Thanks everyone for the wonderful birthday! I'm one blessed chica!

christmas spirit

Today we took a trip to the library to see Santa.
Layla was so so excited.
While we stood in line she kept saying, "Hi Santa! Hi Santa!"
She was so antsy to get on his lap.

It was finally her turn, and as she got up close to him she put her head in her hands
and started to cry.
She had tried so hard to be brave.
I got her calmed down, and convinced her to stand by him as he held Marx.
She finally warmed up to him and told him that she wanted a bike for Christmas.
Marx was quite content,
until her saw me.

This afternoon I made Layla her own little felt Christmas tree.
(hoping that it will keep her from moving the ornaments on my tree!)
She loves it.

fall family pictures

My wonderful friend, Wendi took our family pictures for us this year.
We're both really trying to learn everything about our DSLR's
so we decided to experiment on each other.

She did a wonderful job.
Thanks girl.

his first words

yesterday, 12.04.2011
he clearly said...
"Mamamama!"
 3 different times!
Lance even heard him to second it.
(he was okay with it since Layla's first words were dadadada)

makes me smile (:

12.01.2011

she surprised us again!

My wonderful mother surprised me the weekend I hosted my DoTerra meeting.
She came with her DoTerra consultant, Perla, that would be teaching the class.
Perla would be flying in late Wednesday night so I stayed up and waited for her. It was around 11:30PM when she finally got here. Her car alarm started going off, so I went to check on her.
When I looked out our front window I saw MY MOM!

I was so excited. I just jumped up and down and hugged Lance.
My sneaky husband. He's so good at keeping secrets.

She was here for 6 wonderful days.
I just love her.

Layla insisted that grandma was tired and needed to take a nap under her
little table in her room. (with all her barbies)

seriously, nothing is better than your mom showing up at
your door when you live 1700 miles away from her.

thanks dad for sharing her with me (:

M is 7 months!

(i started this post on the 29th, when you actually turned 7 months old. just shows how much time you've given me the past few days to blog!)

Marx,

You are now 7 months old!
You sure have grown this last month.

Yesterday I took you in for your 6 month check-up
(we're a month behind because of our trip to Utah this past summer)
You received your shots and half of your flu shot.
It was horrible. You didn't want anything to do with the nurse after she gave them to you.
You clung to me as tight as you could.

You weigh 17.6 lbs - 50%
Your 26" long - 75%
And your head circumference is 17.5"
and healthy as can be.

BUT you are cutting all 4 top teeth right now.
So, you  may be healthy, but you sure aren't happy!
Two cut in yesterday and you have two more that I can see trying to make their appearance.
And to relieve the pain you put EVERYTHING in your mouth.
I've tried every Essential oil mixture I can think of to help you out. So far the OnGuard works best.
You pop teething tablets all day long and I even resulted in giving you tylenol last night.
This week has already been so long and it's only Wednesday.
All you want me to do it hold you, so not to much gets done around the house, and I wasn't even able to get myself or your sister dressed today. You're just a sad, miserable little guy right now.
And I can't bare to let you cry and be uncomfortable.
Mommas gotta hold you.
(you owe your sister, I feel like she hasn't got the attention that she's needed lately)

Anyway...
You sit up now! All by yourself.
Which means, I don't bathe you in your little sink bath tub.
I remember the last night I gave you a bath in it.
It was bittersweet.
You're just getting so big.
But now, you and your sister have a ball in the big bath.
You two are adorable.
Sister loves to pour water on your head, and you just sit there and let her.
You're a good sport...

You still love your baby food.
Today I made your first batch of homemade baby food. Carrots and apples.
Sadly, you didn't like either.
I think the consistency is what bothers you most.
I haven't quite mastered getting the food perfectly smooth.

Your sister is great at making you laugh hysterically.
(and cry hysterically)
Right now, she's really into trying to pick you up and take you everywhere she goes.
Sadly, Tuesday night, while I was putting my boots on to go to a holiday home party, she picked you up
and dropped you on our tile floor. When I heard you screaming I knew what had happened.
I ran around the corner to see you laying flat on your back and sister had the saddest look in her eyes
trying to console you. She was heart broken.
I called your dad at work anxiously wondering if I should take you to the hospital, but by then you were
just peachy and didn't act like anything had happened.

You're still a wonderful little sleeper (during the night that is)
Naptimes are always around the same time: 10:30AM, 2:00PM, and 5:00PM
I just never know how long you'll sleep.
Could be 20 minutes, could be 2 hours.
And you know who is an expert at getting you to sleep?
Your dad!
Usually you'll only go to sleep for me if I nurse you. But if you fight me,
daddy takes over and gets you to sleep every time.
I ALWAYS hand you off to him in sacrament at church, and he ALWAYS brings you back sawing logs.

You're very gifted when it comes to your feet.
You use them to help balance toys, pick up toys, hold certain toys while playing with other toys.
It's so cute, and something I've never seen any other baby do.

You love baby einstein. Just like your sister did.
There's just something about those videos.
They put you in hypnosis.

About three weeks ago we moved you from your bassinett to your crib.
You now share a room with your big sister.
That was our way of keeping her out of our bed.
We tell her every night that she needs to sleep in her big girl bed so you don't get scared.
Seems to be working.

I'm hoping, soon, that the good days will start to out number the bad.
Hopefully teething will subside for a bit so I can have my happy baby back.
But until then, your momma will be right here.
Rushing to you every time you start to cry.

I love you big boy!
Love,
Your proud mommy

for any who may be interested, please join!

I started using DoTERRA oils right before Marx was born and I'm a true believe of them. I can't believe the difference they've made when it comes to my sick kids, cleaning my home, nursing Marx, minimizing my headaches, and much more. I'm still learning so much about them and will be hosting a class this coming week. If you live in the Hattiesburg area or close to, please feel free to join. These classes are very educational.

marx and brighton

i watched wendi's kids for her yesterday while she got her hair done.
marx and brighton were so cute together on the floor.
they'd just stare, trying to figure each other out.
they're both growing way to fast.

i wish i would have taken these pics with my camera instead of my phone.
still cute...
