Early Saturday morning Lance crawled into bed with me. It was around 5:30 or so, so I was in and out of it. I asked him how work was and he said.. "We saved a man's life tonight." Here's the story:

Deputies pull man from burning car

PICAYUNE — A one-vehicle accident early Saturday morning could have ended tragically if were not for the quick actions of two Pearl River County Sheriff’s Deputies.
Chief Investigator Donnie Saucier said the accident occurred on the 700 block of West Union Road. At that time, James Walter, 33, of 88 Orchard Lane was heading west on the road when, due to the high rate of speed at which he was traveling, the vehicle left the road.
The vehicle struck a tree and caught fire after it left the road. Responding deputies Sgt. Lance Spiers and Deputy Scott Wagner found the vehicle in flames on the side of the road with Walter still inside and unconscious. The two deputies pulled him from the burning car, Saucier said. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.
Walter suffered burns to his body and was taken to Forrest General by helicopter. He later was transported to the burn center in Mobile, Ala. Saucier said he was listed in critical condition.
“These officers put themselves in harm’s way to save this man’s life. That’s what their job is and that’s what they’re paid to do, but they reacted without hesitation,” Saucier said.
Saucier said it is not known at this time if drugs or alcohol was involved in the accident. Neither deputy suffered any injuries, he said.
